Device Check-in
1. Devices will be returned before the end of the school year, on dates to be provided in grades 6, 8, and 12. K-5 students will not remove devices from the school building and students in grades 7 and 9-11 will keep their assigned devices until turn-in dates for grades 8 and 12. Grade 6-12 students who leave the district for any reason must return the device on or before the date of leaving.
2. A student who fails to return the device they have been issued will be charged for the full replacement cost of the device. Failing to return a device could also prevent a student’s records from being released.
User Agreements and Responsibilities
1. If at any point during the school year, there is damage, loss, or theft of a device, the student must contact the Administration immediately.
2. Any technical issue with the device, including operating system, battery issues, loss of network connectivity, failure of apps to launch, etc, must be brought to the attention of the Administration immediately.
3. After two incidents of accidental damage, the student may lose some privileges of the device, and may not be permitted to take the device home. This may also result in disciplinary action.
4. No food or drink is allowed next to your device while it is in use.
5. Cords and cables must be inserted carefully to prevent damage to the device.
6. Devices must remain free of any writing, drawing, stickers, or labels that are not provided by Lovington Schools
7. Devices must never be left in an unlocked locker or car, or in any unsupervised area.
8. Students are responsible for making sure their device battery is charged and ready for school each day.
9. Devices are sensitive to heat and cold. Devices should not be left in cars, direct sunlight, etc.
10. Do not stack books or heavy material on top of devices.
11. Only use a clean, soft cloth to clean the screen. No cleaners of any type
12. Devices should never be carried while the screen is open, or by the screen.
13. Do not place anything on the keyboard before closing the lid.
14. Do not bump the device against lockers, walls, desks, doors, floors, etc.
15. If a student leaves their device at home,a “loaner” device may be made available for that day.
16. A student whose device is being repaired may be issued a “loaner” device until their device is available.
17. Inappropriate media should not be on the device and may not be used as a screen saver of background photo.
18. The presence of weapons, pornographic material, inappropriate language, alcohol, drug, and gang related symbols or pictures will result in disciplinary actions and may result in the loss of device privileges.
19. Storage of files, including pictures, is reserved for educational purpose. Non educational files may be required to be deleted if storage space is an issue.
20. Devices must be muted at all times unless permission is given by the teacher for specific educational purpose.
21. Storage is limited on the device and reserved/prioritized for Lovington Schools approved apps. Apps not approved by the district are carefully monitored and may be removed if storage space becomes an issue.
22. Headphones may be used at the discretion of the teacher. Lovington Schools do not provide headphones.
23. Apps and extensions originally installed by Lovington Schools must remain on the device in usable condition. From time to time the district may add applications to devices as necessary.
24. Attempts to “jailbreak” a device or change the configuration will result in immediate disciplinary action.
25. Any software that is deemed inappropriate for use in school is not to be downloaded or installed. This may include, but is not limited to, music, games, videos, images, eBooks, and apps.
26. Practice good digital citizenship.
  1. Comply with trademark and copyright laws.
  2. Give credit to all sources used. Plagiarism is a violation of the code of conduct. If you are unsure, ask a teacher for guidance.
  3. Use or possession of hacking software is strictly prohibited and violators will be subject to disciplinary action.
  4. If you should receive messages containing inappropriate or abusive language, or if the subject matter is questionable, notify a teacher or administrator immediately.
  5. Respect Yourself - I will show respect for myself through my actions. I will select online names that are appropriate. I will use caution with the information, images, and other media that I post online. I will carefully consider what personal information about my life, experiences, or relationships I post. I will not be obscene. I will act with integrity.
  6. Protect Yourself - I will ensure that the information, images, and materials I post online will not put me at risk. I will not publish my personal details, contact details, or a schedule of my activities. I will report any attacks or inappropriate behavior directed at me while online. I will protect passwords, accounts, and resources.
  7. Respect Others - I will show respect to others. I will not use electronic mediums to antagonize, bully, harass, or stalk people. I will show respect for other people in my choice of websites. I will not visit sites that are degrading to others, pornographic, racist, or inappropriate. I will not enter other people’s private spaces or areas.
  8. Protect Others - I will protect others by reporting abuse and not forwarding inappropriate materials or communications. I will avoid unacceptable materials and conversations.
  9. Respect Intellectual Property - I will suitably cite all use of websites, books, media, etc. I will acknowledge all primary sources. I will validate information. I will use and abide by the fair use rules.
  10. Protect Intellectual Property - I will request to use the software and media others produce. I will purchase, license, and register all software or use available free and open source alternatives rather than pirating software. I will purchase my music and media and refrain from distributing these in a manner that violates their licenses.

User Activities Strictly Prohibited
1. Illegal installation or transmission of copyrighted materials.
2. Any action that violates an applicable existing or future Board policy and/or any applicable laws is subject to disciplinary action.
3. Sending, accessing, uploading, downloading, or distributing offensive, profane, threatening, pornographic, obscene, or sexually explicit materials.
4. Use of sites selling term papers, book reports, and/or other forms of student work.
5. Spamming (Sending mass or inappropriate email)
6. Gaining access to another student’s or staff member’s account, files, or data.
7. Using school email for financial or commercial gain, or for any illegal activity.
8. Sending anonymous or misleading communications for any inappropriate purpose via any means.
9. Students are not allowed to give out personal information without the permission and supervision of their parents or a school staff member.
10. Participation in credit card fraud, electronic forgery, or other forms of illegal behavior.
11. Vandalism, virtual or physical, of school equipment will not be allowed.
12. Bypassing, or attempting to bypass the Lovington Schools web filter.
Parent/Guardian Responsibilities
1. Talk to your children about values and standards that your children should follow while using the internet.
2. Become increasingly active participants by asking your child/children to show you what sites they are navigating to and/or what apps they use, and how they work.
3. The following resources will assist in promoting positive conversations between you and your child/children regarding digital citizenship as it relates to Internet safety, conduct, and Netiquette:

4. Ensure that siblings and other family are not using the device for personal use.

	Be aware of what you post online. Website and social media venues are very public. What you contribute leaves a digital footprint for all to see. Do not post anything you wouldn’t want friends, enemies, parents, teachers, future colleges, or employers to see. (THINK, is it True, Helpful, Inspiring, Necessary, Kind?)
	Be safe online. Never give out personal information, including, but not limited to, last names, phone numbers, addresses, exact birth dates, and pictures. Do not share your password.
	Do your own work! Do not use other people’s intellectual property without their permission. Be aware that it is a violation of copyright law to copy and paste other’s thoughts (plagiarism).
	Be aware that pictures may also be protected under copyright laws. Verify that you have permission to use the image.
	How you represent yourself online is an extension of yourself. Do not misrepresent yourself by using someone else’s identity.
	Students are not allowed to change any device settings without teacher permission. Only tool/apps setting changes are allowed.
	Any action that violates an applicable existing or future Board policy and/or any applicable laws is subject to disciplinary action.
	Any accidental or intentional damage to the device or charger will incur the cost of repair up to cost of the replacement. A member of the Lovington Schools Technology Department staff must perform all repairs.
